LAO Releases Economic & Revenue Update

Here’s something we’ve been waiting for: the LAO’s Update on the Economy & Revenue that gives us some sense, before the May revise, of what California’s economic picture will look like. The state of California’s revenues will determine how deep the cuts to the budget will need to be. Children and families’ experiences depend on these numbers. It isn’t as rosy a picture as we might have hoped for, but there are some positive signs, and of course some harbingers. The biggest issue: the multi-billion dollar discrepancy between the LAO’s estimates and the estimates from the Department of Finance, which the governor used.
