Child Care Legislation Update

Check out this update from March 16 on legislation affecting child care in California.

Lots of legislation which would expand mandated reporting of child abuse. The Gordon bill, AB 2104, makes significant changes to the mission of California’s State Preschool Program. It’s hearing date is set for March 28. There is a proposed change to kindergarten entry date (excludes children under 5), as part of requiring kindergarten. Right now, kindergarten attendance is optional, not compulsory: AB 2203. This is also set to be heard by the Education Committee on March 28. AB 2137 changes some of the language governing family child care homes, with potentially significant effects. SB 1087 would change how California regulates day “camps.” There is other legislation of interest, as well.
