CD 479 Class Online Today

Because the presentation on Indian Boarding Schools is happening during our class time, I wanted to switch things around so that people could attend if they wish. To that end, instead of meeting in CD 479 tonight, I want to ask you to complete the 2 tasks listed below. Come prepared to class on Monday to REALLY discuss what you took away from these resources. (Do the work, rather than just taking the evening off, so that we can move forward as a group!)

1) Review the PowerPoint I’ve posted on Moodle titled: EU vs. US Social Policy, starting where we left off at Slide #7.
–Listen to the the audio file between minutes 22 & 23 on Slide #7.
–Follow the link on Slide #13 to download the .pdf form of the report. View the chart on childcare usage and goals. Look through this document to get a sense of EU social policy.
–Follow the link on Slide #15 to get more info on childcare in Europe. Browse through that document.
–Follow the links on Slide #20 to see how US military expenditures compare to those of other nations, including the New York Times article on the US Black Budget.
–Follow the link on Slide #21 to get a sense of how the US spends more on health care for our citizens, even though health care is guaranteed for every citizen in these other systems.
2) Watch this primer from the Legislative Analyst’s Office on the California Budget.
